Public Spaces Series

This series, published in association with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, focuses on developing our understanding of how people use public spaces. Each report explores people's relationships with public spaces and, in turn, the impact that public spaces have on individuals and communities. The reports feed into important debates about social capital and social cohesion.

The contribution of local high streets to sustainable communities

Local urban high streets have frequently suffered from neglect in comparison to town centres and out-of-town retail. Drawing on case-studies in three different locations in England, the report provides a wealth of data and findings produced from a variety of sources, both quantitative and qualitative.
