Information for Authors

At The Policy Press we are committed to providing our authors with an excellent service right from the initial proposal stage through to keeping you informed about sales and marketing feedback after your book is published. Further guidance for authors and organisations is available by following the links on the left.

Here's what some of our authors say:

"Thank you and all your colleagues very warmly for the great efficiency and good tempered editing and joshing that we have benefited from. It is particularly nice to have one's enthusiasm for The Policy Press confirmed by experience so that I can continue to urge colleagues and others to exploit all your skills and services." Adrian Sinfield, University of Edinburgh

"I was very impressed, and very happy to work with the Policy Press"
Philip Bean, author of Legalising drugs

“Working with the Policy Press has been a delight. How rarely one finds a publisher who keeps you informed of what is happening all the way through the process! How unusual to find that far from having to nag my publisher for information about the next steps they always seemed one step ahead of me! Moreover they remain small enough to retain that personal touch without being so small that their professionalism suffers. The staff at Policy Press make authors feel that they matter and that you are not just text fodder supplying an anonymous publishing machine.” Paul Hoggett, Professor of Politics and Director of the Centre for Psycho-Social Studies, University of the West of England

"... by far the best, most professional and most friendly publishing experience I've ever had." Dr Iain Docherty, Department of Management, University of Glasgow

"The Policy Press are publishers with a difference. They manage well the delicate balance between supporting and controlling the publishing product, showing a genuine and personal commitment to the books they publish, and the authors with whom they are working. I have thoroughly enjoyed my working relationship with The Policy Press, and have utmost respect for the professionalism of their staff at all levels." Professor Viviene Cree, Head of Social Work, University of Edinburgh and Co- Editor, Social Work in Practice Series

“At a time when book publishing has become increasingly difficult, those who work in applied social science, particularly social policy, are very fortunate that there remains, in the Policy Press, an expert university based press committed to the dissemination of research and the production of materials for teaching.”
Michael Hill, Emeritus Professor of Social Policy, Newcastle University

“It is a real pleasure to work with The Policy Press. TPP offers professional assistance of very high quality in every stage of book production, from proposal to publication.”
Arnlaug Leira, Professor of Sociology, University of Oslo, Norway

"Policy Press published my second book and it was a great experience. In a supportive environment I experienced a strong partnership, working closely with me from the proposal stage through to book signing and sales. The editorial team kept me informed and involved at each stage of the publishing process and I recommend Policy Press to authors everywhere.” Mekada Graham, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Social Work, University of Oklahoma

"I was very impressed with the efficiency and friendliness of everyone at Policy Press. I am hard to please, and my tendency to deliver before deadlines both intimidates and disorientates most publishers, but I found all the staff were prompt and helpful. There is plenty of opportunity to discuss issues, and queries are answered immediately.”
Bill Jordan, Professor of Social Policy, University of Plymouth

"Thanks for all your help on the publication of the book. Mary and I are delighted with it.  It is beautifully produced and it has been a great pleasure to work with Policy Press on this."
Heather Montgomery and Mary Kellett, Open University, editors of Children and young people’s worlds
